Afternoon Tea was traditionally served in The Rotunda, said to be The Pierre’s signature room. The famous trompe l’oeil murals are the work of American artist Edward Melcarth and were commissioned in 1967 with the intention of bringing the style and spirit of the Renaissance paintings into the present. The inclusion of classic mythological figures like Neptune and Venus are intermingled with a women who resembles Jacqueline Kennedy and others modeled after people from New York Society during that era.
Now guests and visitors looking to enjoy a traditional Afternoon Tea can come to The Pierre’s Two E Bar/Lounge, which was designed by Alexandra Champalimaud. Champalimaud anchored the room with a striking art deco copper bar as its centerpiece, yet maintained the classic décor of The Pierre by preserving original Georgian detailing on the classic columns and ceiling. The room also features contemporary art, sleek black chandeliers, and cozy sofas with oversized pillows and chairs pulled up to low tables are perfect for a crowd.
The most unique fact about tea service at The Pierre is 80 years of tradition. The Pierre also offers two custom tea blends from Harney & Sons including The Pierre blend which is a mixture of several black teas leaves with a hint of vanilla and bergamot. The second custom blend is the Pierre Chai, which can be served the traditional way with steamed milk or hot water.
The traditional tea service is the most popular service as it offers the tiered tray of fresh homemade tea finger sandwiches, scones and tea pastries. Our raisin scones are baked fresh daily by our Executive Pastry Chef, Michael Mignano and his team. The scones are made in the traditional English dropped style which are light and fluffy, rather than the American style of dense scones in a triangular shape.
